Who we are
Gail and I (Wally) are both long-time residents of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We
operate an urban market garden. One unique feature of our market garden is that
it is located within the confines of a city: Saskatoon. Our produce is grown on a
number of residential garden plots scattered throughout the city. This allows us to practice an eco-friendly
form of agriculture, one that puts less pressure on rural habitats, and fosters
self-reliance in an urban setting. This form of agriculture makes it more
feasible to utilise organic household kitchen wastes, as much of this material
can be composted and used for growing crops.
How we grow
All our produce is home-grown, and everything is harvested by hand. All our
produce is grown without pesticides or herbicides. We use only natural
fertilisers, such as locally composted organic materials.
All our produce is irrigated with city
water and rainfall, thus ensuring high-quality growing conditions.
What we grow
Gail and I grow and sell our produce from late May until late October. We have a
variety of produce available throughout this period. We usually have spinach,
lettuce, rhubarb, salad mixes, green and red onion bunches, green garlic, and
radish available by late May/early June. Many of these items are available
throughout the growing season. Summer sees the introduction of potatoes, peas,
carrots, green and yellow beans, cucumbers, shallots, garlic, dill, and summer
squash. A variety of fresh produce is available in the fall time until late
October. We take pride in our ability to provide produce to our customers on a
steady weekly basis.
How to obtain our produce
Gail and I sell our produce at the Saskatoon Farmer's Market at the downtown
City Hall location on Saturdays (8 a.m.- 2 p.m). We usually have produce
available by late May and sell on a weekly basis until late October.
